Ryan “Beans” Benes grew up in beautiful Orange County, California, where an early interest in cars and figuring out how things worked eventually turned into a passion for flying.

He was training for a career as an airline pilot when 9/11 happened. Instead of continuing on to the airlines, Ryan joined the Marine Corps at 24 and spent more than two decades flying the MV-22 Osprey. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after a career that included operational flying, aviation leadership, service as a White House Tiltrotor Aircraft Commander, and  Department of Defense Acquisitions.

Along the way, Ryan was given the callsign “Beans,” a play on his last name. Years later, when he started building his voice acting business, that callsign became the inspiration behind CallsignVO.

Outside the booth, Ryan is a husband and father of two amazing kids, and one cat. He loves video games, overly complicated cooking, studying military history, and any excuse to be outdoors.

In military aviation, callsigns are part of the culture. Every one is unique, and there is always a story behind how it came to be.

That concept applies to voice acting. A good script is more than the words on the page. There is a reason it was written, an audience it needs to reach, and a story underneath it. Ryan’s job is to find that story, and land it.
